How veneers can completely transform your smile
Veneers are thin, tooth-coloured shells bonded to the front of the teeth. They are one of the most versatile tools in cosmetic dentistry — but they are not right for every situation. Here is a straight explanation.
What veneers can fix
- Stubborn discolouration that whitening cannot shift (for example from old fillings, injury, or certain medicines).
- Small chips and worn edges on the front teeth.
- Small gaps between the front teeth.
- Slightly crooked or uneven teeth, where the bite is otherwise healthy.
- Teeth that are too small or misshapen for the smile.
What veneers are not for
They are a cosmetic surface, not a structural repair. Significant crowding or a bad bite is better treated with braces or aligners first. Heavily decayed or broken-down teeth usually need a crown, not a veneer. And if you grind your teeth at night, that has to be managed — often with a night guard — or veneers will chip.
How the process works
- Consultation. We check the health of the teeth and gums, discuss the shape and shade you want, and take photos and impressions.
- Preparation. A very thin layer of enamel is usually removed so the veneer sits flush. Some modern veneers need little or no preparation.
- Fitting. The veneers are made to match your face and neighbouring teeth, then bonded in place and polished.
Is it worth it?
For the right person — healthy teeth, realistic expectations, a specific cosmetic concern — veneers can make a dramatic, natural-looking difference. The best first step is a consultation so we can tell you honestly whether veneers, whitening, bonding or orthodontics will give you the result you want.
